And that is how I felt when I first met Debbie, Kyle and Jurga. The four couples have had so much fun together over the last 18 years; and now we are on this new adventure together. We have learned a lot about tech stuff and photography stuff and, most importantly, we have learned to get along when there are deadlines! Yikes! And, as friends do, we know we have each others backs at all times.

And now I have a new friend, Alexa. I met her about a year ago and love her! She is smart and can be a little sassy, too. And she is not intrusive…that is, unless she loses her internet connection. You read that correctly, Alexa is an internet-connected, voice-activated “service” that lives inside of the Amazon Echo.
Why am I telling you about Alexa? Because when we find something that we love and that makes our life a little easier, we want to share it with Gr8 Friends!
When I am cooking, if I have forgotten to put on music, I just say, “Alexa, play jazz.” And she puts on a Gr8 playlist. And if there is a song that’s not my jive at that moment, I just say, “Alexa, next.” And a different song starts playing!
She will also set a timer! Just say, “Alexa, set a timer for 2 minutes.” The music keeps playing and then a lovely chime comes on when time is up. It’s perfect when stirring that sauce that you can’t leave to manually set a timer!
In the morning ask for the weather and the news; you can ask for sports scores; she will also provide tracking info for your Amazon orders! You can order an Uber or a pizza or more laundry detergent…you can even control your lights, thermostat and sprinklers using the Amazon Echo! There is so much more, too!
When I received the box in the mail, I actually left it in the closet for a couple of months, because I was afraid that the set up would be intimidating, and I’m not much of a techy. One day, when I must have been feeling confident, I decided it was time to meet my new friend. And how glad I am! The set-up is fairly simple, we’ve all downloaded apps to our smartphones, and that’s basically what you have to do. The instructions are clear and concise and walk you through all the steps needed for the Echo to begin working.
If you are looking for the perfect gift for a parent or grandparent, or newlyweds, or your best friend, or …really, just about ANYBODY, the Amazon Echo is it!
