Well, well, well, here we are two weeks in to 2017. How are your resolutions working…are you keeping them?
According to the Cambridge Dictionary:
It’s okay if you’ve slipped up, just start over! Here’s a hint I heard, make your resolution every day. That is, wake up in the morning and make that promise to yourself to do whatever it is you want to do…just for that day. If you do that each and every morning, your resolutions will be kept! Sounds easy, right? (We will see!)
And also, break it down. If you want to lose weight or be more productive or learn a new skill (like painting!) or whatever that is…what does that mean? If you want to lose weight, does that mean moving more, or eating less, or a combination of both? If you want to be more productive, maybe that means less time playing games on-line. And if you want to learn a new skill, you need a plan.
Isn’t that what it really comes down to…planning? So make a plan and be mindful every day….YOU’VE GOT THIS!
A friend of mine quit smoking a while back. He was in his mid-20s, was up to a 2-pack a day habit, and decided it was time to quit. His mom had smoked while pregnant with him and he picked up the habit at 12! Talk about an addiction! I asked him how he managed to kick the habit. He said that, for him, it was all about picking focal points. Mornings were rough because he ALWAYS had a cigarette with his coffee. So, instead of obsessing about not having a smoke in the A.M. he studied coffee and bought exotic beans from all over the world. His mornings were then focused on brewing the perfect cup of coffee and savoring the flavor. Basically, each morning he made a plan for his day, he knew what his triggers were for smoking and figured out how to avoid them. It’s now been 10 years and he hasn’t smoked, bravo!
Yes, we are 14 days in to the new year, maybe you are like me and have totally blown that resolution…just start again! Who says we can’t? Each day is a new day. Good luck to you and good luck to me with improving our lives each and every day!
